P.E. PROGRAM

Earhart Elementary School Physical Education Program

Welcome to Earhart P.E.!!! Within our exciting P.E. Program, students will be provided with the opportunity to play, explore, collaborate, lead, and actively learn within this highly engaging environment.  The aim of our P.E. program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle, while simultaneously promoting the physical, mental, emotional and social well-being of every student within their pursuit of lifelong health and knowledge.

Student Attire & Equipment:
In an effort to provide the best opportunity for student learning and success, parents need to make sure their children dress properly for P.E. Kindergarten through fifth grade Earhart students will have P.E. classes weekly. On their P.E. days students should have:

  • Tennis/Athletic shoes with velcro or laces tied and socks - NO skateboarder shoes, boots or sandals.
  • Comfortable clothes - if dresses are worn, please be sure shorts are worn underneath.
  • Plastic Water Bottle with child's name - this is important because the water fountains are not located near the activity area.

Student Injury/Illness:
Students need to bring a note from a parent/guardian if they are unable to participate. This note is only valid for two P.E. classes. If more time is needed to heal, a note from a doctor is required. It is our belief that while an injury/illness may prevent a child from doing all activities during P.E. class, there are many activities in which they can still participate. Bring a book to read if unable to participate!  All notes to the PE teacher should include ...                                        

  • Child's name and date and teacher
  • Specific injury or illness
  • Specific activities child is not allowed to participate in
  • Parent signature and phone number

Curriculum:

We’ll be kicking off the year with individual cooperative games, individualized locomotor skill building activities, competitive team sports and drills, muscle building fitness circuits, Olympic sports and heart pumping Fun Runs. Students have been putting their best foot forward, whether it is a run, skip, hop or jump!

Grading Standards:

 

 

***Student demonstrates positive interpersonal characteristics.

Focus: engagement, preparedness, attitude, sportsmanship, determination

 

 I.    Student participates actively in Physical Education while consistently following directions and adhering to PE-related standards, class rules, and Earhart Elementary policies.

 

II.    Student maintains a positive attitude, demonstrates effort, sustains focus, and shows preparedness and determination.  

III.   Student demonstrates sportsmanship by showing respect for self and others, empathy/compassion, positive communication, support/encouragement, and acts as a good teammate/classmate in times of victory and defeat.

 

 

***Student demonstrates skill sets, knowledge, and ability to perform.

Focus: locomotor movements, manipulative skills, fitness concepts, aerobic capacity, group dynamics

 

I.    Student demonstrates the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Focus:   movement concepts, body management, locomotor movement, manipulative skills, rhythmic skills

 

II.   Student demonstrates knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.       

Focus:  movement concepts, body management, locomotor movement, manipulative skills, rhythmic skills

 

III.   Student demonstrates knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.                                                                                                  

 Focus:  fitness concepts, aerobic capacity, muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, body composition

 

IV.   Student demonstrates and utilizes knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity.                  

 Focus self-responsibility, social interaction, group dynamics, problem-solving, collaborative strategizing, group communication,

Aviator/Aviatrix Walking Club

Aviator/Aviatrix Walking Club:

 

Students: Attention all Aviatrix and Aviators!!!  Pilots Wanted!!! Earhart Elementary is actively recruiting ground pilots for a 2,400 mile walking journey which proudly signifies the historical distance our name-sake, Amelia Earhart flew on January 11, 1935, when she became the first person in history to fly from Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California (the continental United States). Walk into history and put your footprints on the ground as we embark on this weekly journey across the Pacific. Set your altimeter and fuel gauges, as we will pull out of the taxiway and depart each morning from 8:10am – 8:20am (weather permitting by tower). So don’t stay in the hanger! Put your wheels and flaps down and join the Earhart Elementary Aviator/Aviatrix Walking Club! Come see just how many miles YOU can log into your flight book, and remember… each lap is 1/10th of a mile, so the more you log, the faster you’ll fly from the beautiful blue shores of Honolulu to the emerald green banks that line the San Francisco Bay!

Families: Attention passengers!!! Earhart pilots are awaiting you at our terminals and are now boarding at your closest gate! That means YOU Earhart families!!! Close those suitcases, open up those passports, and get out that boarding pass; because YOU TOO are invited to collect your passport walking stamps and walk with your child along their journey each morning!
