WCDC Openings

The Woodstock Child Development Center is currently enrolling for its toddler and preschooler programs, as well as its afterschool programs for TK-5th graders, and summer sessions.  Activities include social-emotional development, school readiness, homework assistance, STEAM, and physical fitness.  For more information, please call          510-748-4001.

Everyone Belongs Here Poem and Poetry Contest

The LGBTQ Round Table's 7th annual poem and poetry contest is now open!  The theme: Through your original art and writing show that whether you use she, he, they, or ze, of hir pronouns, you are part of our communtiy, a citizen, and accept all citizens. 

The contest is open to all AUSD students in grades 4 through 12.  Contestants can write a poem, design a poster, or both.  Awards will be given to winners grades 4-8 and 9-12.  The overall winning poster will be displayed in AUSD schools and offices. 

Submissions due by 5:00 pm on April 30th can be delivered or emailed to Susan Davis at the AUSD District Office (sdavis@alamedaunified.org) or to Gene Kahane at Books, Inc. on Park Street (genekahane@gmail.com).  All entries must include: name, school, teacher, email and phone number.

Alameda Special Education Family Support Group Resource Fair

The Alameda Special Education Family Support Group (ASPEDPSG) will host a Resource Fair on Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  The fair will take place at Ruby Bridges Elementary School and will provide opportunities to build community and learn about local programs to support students.  Organizations sending representatives include Alameda Recreation & Parks Department, Canine Companions for Independence, Community Resources for Independent Living, Decoding Dyslexia of California, North Region SELPA, Ala Costa Center, Environmental Traveling Companions, Oakland Ice Center Operated by Sharks Ice, First 5 Alameda County, Alameda Little League, Alameda Soccer Club, AUSD's Special Educaton Department, and many others!  This year, there will be a Community Roundtable with the Director of North Region SELPA, Katy Babcocok, and a workshop on Community Safety for Children and Youth with Disabilities presented by Suzee Meno, Senior Public Safety Dispatcher with the Alameda Police Department.  This is a family friendly event, and no registration is required to attend.

Boys and Girls Club Summer Programs

The Alameda Boys and Girls Club is running two programs this summer for its members.  The "Drop In Program" is available Monday through Friday, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm for members ages 6 to 18.  There will also be Teen Nights for members ages 13 to 18, on Wednesday and Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Fridays from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.  The "Sunrise Club" is a camp that runs 7:00 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, for members ages 6 to 12 and offers themes, activities, and field trips.  For more information, please go to the club's website (under Community Links) or call 510-522-4900, or email jadkins@alamedabgc.org

Wolverines Football and Cheer Programs

Vacation Bible School

Registration for the Bay Area Chinese Bible Church's "Giddy Up Junction" vacation Bible school is now open.  The camp will run from July 22 to August 2, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and is open to students entering grades 1 to 8 this coming fall.  Activities include bible lessons, recreation, puppet shows, arts and crafts.  For more information, please visit our website (under Community Links) or call 510-385-0574

Papalotes Spanish Summer Camp

Give your kids the opportunity to learn the Spanish language and culture in a fun and nurturing environment!  Activities include tradition games, art projects, stories, music and cooking.  Camps are for kids grades K-3.  Camp dates are June 10th - 14th, 17th - 21st, & 24th - 28th, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm.  Siblings discount available.  Native language instructor.  For more details, please visit the website under Community Links or email marthapapalotespanishschool@gmail.com
